Real Estate Today
Trying to sell your home during the holidays can be very challenging. Yet it can be fun and rewarding as you meet prospects motivated enough to brave the dark skies and frigid air. Most buyers who are looking during this time of the year are serious about finding a home. You can avoid many a “just looking” buyer.
The first step to interest someone in your home is to impress them with the holiday spirit as they approach the door. An uncluttered stoop and an attractive wreath hung on the door offer an invitation to see more. Keep your outside holiday decorations to a minimum.
Make sure your home is free from clutter. Personal items you can do without in the short run should be boxed up and stored in the garage or in a storage unit away from the premises. An attractive staging of your home is a necessity. You’ll want to show the home at its best.
As you answer the door for the prospective buyer and the Realtor who has made an appointment with you, do so with a smile and a warm greeting, then get out of the way. Let the Realtor do the showing. They have been trained to allow the prospective buyers to discover the features of the home for themselves.
Fill the air with pleasant scents of the holidays. Perhaps a new batch of cookies or bread could be baking in the oven. Almost everyone enjoys the smell of fresh-baked goods. If you don’t cook, try baking some Rhodes rolls or a packaged cake. These pleasant smells help to stimulate the senses, so your prospective buyer will want to linger and take time visualizing themselves in each room of the house.
Have a small plate of holiday treats or a loaf of homemade bread that your visitors may take with them as they leave. They will not forget your generosity, and above all they will remember the visit they have just made. Until next week, keep smiling. Email your questions to email@example.com
