This month, Bill Brown began writing a column for our new community newspaper, The Springville Independent News, published every Thursday. We will be including his articles in our blog. Here is his June 16th column.
Is it wise to buy and sell real estate today?
Information is the key. The right information. In this fast-paced age we live in, we are often overwhelmed. With the internet, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, smart phones, iPads, this blog, that blog, and more than 500 T.V. channels to choose from, is it any wonder that we become confused?
What we see and hear in the media, may not be applicable to our area or to your individual situation.
Just the other night I was watching our friendly local TV channel, and all I heard was that the housing market is continuing to be in shambles, foreclosures are on the rise, new home construction continues to decline, and mortgages are hard to come by. Is it any wonder that those wanting the “American Dream” are confined to their caves wishing things were different, and giving up the idea of home ownership all together?
Real estate always has been and always will be a local economy. Don’t pay much attention to the national scene. Things that are happening in your own neighborhood, city, and state should be the most important criteria in your decision making.
It is true that “Happy Valley” has not been unscathed from all this economic turmoil.
But things are getting better. This week I read an article bearing a headline that read “Utah foreclosures on the decline.” We still have way too many foreclosures. That is the negative news. But there are less of them. RealtyTrac has reported that foreclosures in Utah are down 10% from a year ago. That is great news!
As the saying goes “One can look at the cup as half empty or one can look at the same cup as half full.” I don’t know about you, but I like mine half full.
Please take the time to email me with your questions regarding our local real estate markets and conditions. I will try to answer as many as I can in this weekly column.
